UX or UI?

The terms UI (User Interface)and UX (User Experience) are interchangeably used when talking about product design in tech.

When I started, I did not know that they are 2 different jobs and more so I did not know that I needed to choose between the two. I researched a lot about the job descriptions, what kind of work the UI and UX designers usually do and things like that. So, after getting to know the plausible differences, I chose UX designing.

UX design- User Experience design is everything a user experiences while interacting with a product.

UI design- User Interface design is the interface the user uses to interact with a product

The whole process from start to finish excited me, except for conducting user research. But, doing some good study has definitely helped me know more about it. Actually, I have done user research a few times in the past without calling it a ‘user research’. Having said that, I would also like to mention that it was challenging to do. As a beginner it’s hard to get to the users, especially in the present times with covid restrictions in place. I will share the challenges I faced and how I came up with solutions to those challenges, in my future articles.

Take Away- If you’re just starting out, I would like to suggest that you first get to know the difference between UI and UX design. Read more articles, find out what you are more passionate about and then make a plan of action accordingly. Every field has its own challenges and in order to achieve something, you need to take them head on!
